Mayor Chada called the meeting to order with Ackman, Moody, Knutson, and E Hoffman in attendance. Others attending were Brian McGinnis/District II Planning, Mark Meyer/Sanborn County, Don Moe, O Ettswold, Mary Luckett, and Jerome Evans.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the annexation process. This is something the board has discussed for years and wanted to gain more information on the process, the cities liabilities to property owners, and the total assets that would be gained by annexing area land.
The board was informed that property owners outside of city limits receiving services from the city are not necessarily guaranteed the same rates as those within city limits.
The public attending was concerned about how annexation would affect the “way of life” that they have grown accustomed to. The county zoning ordinance has addressed some of these issues with the buffer zone that was established.
At this time the board has not made a decision on an annexation, but will pursue increasing rates to property outside of city limits receiving services.
We would like to thank Mark Meyer and Brian McGinnis for sharing their insight with us.
