The Letcher Community Club is made up of volunteer members who are willing
to work to better our community.
Past and current projects include the following:
- Annual Halloween Party (since 1991)
The Letcher Community Club plans and puts on an annual Halloween
party at the Letcher School. Costumes are judged, with carnival
games following.
- Easter Egg Hunt (started in 2002)
The Letcher Community Club sponsored an Easter Egg Hunt,
complete with Easter Bunny. Cookies and juice were served
afterwards.
- Letcher Cookbook
In 1998 the Letcher Community Club collected recipes from many,
many families in the community, as well as former Letcher residents,
to compile a new cookbook. The last community cookbook was published
15 years prior to this one. Proceeds from the sale of the cookbooks has
sponsored many of the other projects the club does.
- Ballpark Playground Equipment
In 1993, the Letcher Community Club purchased the materials and constructed
some playground equipment at the Letcher Ballpark. In 2000, they received
a grant from the ALM (Artesian-Letcher-Mt. Vernon) Community Foundation to purchase and
install more new playground equipment, which was completed in the spring
of 2001. The playground area is used by Letcher children, as well
as children visiting from out of town on ballgame days.
- School Discovery Day Sponsor
The Letcher Community Club is a proud sponsor of Discovery Day at the
Letcher School. Many people volunteer on that day to show students
many different activities and teach them new hobbies and skills.
- New Concession Stand
In 1997, the Letcher Community Club purchased the materials and
obtained the skills of the Artesian-Letcher School Vo-Ag classes to
construct a new concession stand with a crow's nest for use at the
Letcher ballpark.
- Miscellaneous Other Projects
The Letcher Community Club has made many donations to various
causes and organizations over the years.
